I’ve heard of this tradition, and I wonder if I could only give books 📕 for Christmas. I don’t think all five of my kids would go for this… might try next year though!
I worked at a bookstore in college where for one day in December (our choice) the owner would give us an additional holiday discount on top of our usual employee discount. Naturally, we all used it to do our Christmas shopping … my family and I would each note titles we wanted to give someone, I’d carefully set them aside and then buy the whole mountain at once (with the various beneficiaries reimbursing me). Book flood indeed!
As a side note, I have also always included magazines in the Christmas stockings, though that has become decidedly more difficult in recent years, especially after Soopers did away with their huge magazine rack … I’m still in mourning for that.
I love this. I am a retired teacher after 40 years of teaching. I have always given my grandkids books at birthdays and Christmas. I know there isn't much of a reaction, but then I know that they'll quietly read them sometime in the near future and enjoy them. 'Berta

I feel like kids likely wouldn’t be on board as much as we bookish adults but you never know!

Oh man that's awesome. Magazines are great for stockings, and so are single issues of comics.
