Hello all: today’s FCC gathering is free, as it is an RMP (are we all familiar with all my acronyms now? Good). Please to enjoy these colorful pics and their explanation, and stay tuned for a full fight analysis next week.
Today’s Random Movement Pic is a pair of them, from the same act on the same night: one of Blue Dime Cabaret’s Pride themed shows at Boulder, CO’s only gay bar, DV8 Distillery, now closed. I can’t recall if this was last year’s Genderf*ckery show, or the year before, which was called Busting With Pride1, but I do know that these pics were taken by one Anthony Earl, pro photographer. And as you’ve no doubt noticed, it’s not exactly a random choice, as it’s newly June as I type this, and therefore I’m prepping for our upcoming Pride show. This year, we’re calling it Pride, Not Prejudice.
This act was a pretty basic burlesque tease, performed to The Commodores’ ‘Brick House’ and is one of my favorite acts to do. I have the audience join me in some gestural dance moves, and there’s a lot of shimmying to the ‘shake it down shake it downown’ part. I feel like this song is meant for my burlesque alter ego, Valkyrie Rose, if only for the lyric: ‘She’s the one, the only one / built like an Amazon.’
(Here’s an article about our Busting w/ Pride show, from local paper Westword. Since then, DV8 has closed and we’ve won an award. Life and theatre work in mysterious ways… BDC Westword article, Toni Tresca, 2023)
From that song from the musical Carousel: remember? ‘June is busting out all over…’? I thought it was a clever play on words for a burlesque-heavy variety show.
