Hitting the ground running
Do we know where that phrase began? I had always thought it was a reference to parachuting--when one lands with a parachute, it’s much safer on the ol’ body if you “hit the ground running.” I don’t know anything about parachuting but I do know something about parkour, and they definitely teach you to hit the ground running if you can’t hit the ground rolling. So. Let me know if you know anything about this phrase in the comments--that would be a lot more fun than googling it.
But why, you ask, have I titled this post with said phrase? And why, for that matter, am I posting on a Wednesday? Well I’ll tell ya:
I am posting with that phrase today in reference to this brand spanking new Substack publication having received its first paid subscription! /insert celebratory pomp and circumstance music here/ 🎶🎉💰
To celebrate further, please to enjoy this article about a nerdy word, from one of the Substacks that I happen to follow myself, one Ironic Sans. Like me, he started his publication here from an older blog, and I find his work fun and brain-food-y in the best way. Here’s one of my favorite pieces of his:
So there you have it. Spreading the love near and far, as is the writer’s way... (and thanks for the support, all of youse!)
