Okay, so I might be a little bit obsessed with the fights in Romeo & Juliet since doing the ballet version last week, and having done West Side Story way back in Fight Clip Club’s beginnings. Sitting with the ballet in such detail last week made me want to revisit the (in)famous Zeffirelli version, and so I found the same fight scene from this film that I already talked about from the ballet.
With one exception—I’m ending my analysis today with Mercutio’s death, instead of extending it through the Romeo vs. Tybalt followup fight. It’s very involved, and the fight choreography itself is much more elaborate than the ballet’s was. Will I then move on to Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet next week? Will I remain this obsessed? I dunno—follow FCC to find out.
For now, please to enjoy one of my favorite portrayals of one of my favorite Tricksters in Shakespeare. I’ll meet you after the paywall.
