You thought I was going to talk about that famous parkour chase, huh. Or the stairwell fight? Yeah, I could’ve. Easily. For example, did you know that the chase-ee in the parkour scene was one of the founding creators of the art of parkour? But talking about those would be too expected, and if you’ve been a FCC member for any length of time you know I prefer to go a little bit more unusual than that with my fight choices. It just makes the whole thing more interesting, don’t you agree?
There are a few fabulous stunts throughout this film, as well there should be, it being not only a Bond film, but the one that jumpstarted the franchise after a hiatus that made many of us think the Bond thing wouldn’t happen again, that it was a fossil to be enjoyed in its older iterations only. Casino Royale breathed new life into Bond, and I have to say that as a Bond fan since pre-teen-hood, I was not disappointed at all.
Let’s take a closer look at that now-iconic opening fight, in black and white. I’ve left the interspersed non-fight scene there too, for two reasons: 1) it’s so intertwined with the fight, it feels almost like it’s a part of the scene; 2) the dialogue of the one scene balances the physical-only fight perfectly.
