Fight Clip Club: Atomic Blonde

More in the realm of women getting violent. Very stylishly, in this case.

Today we’re continuing into the world of women fighting in film. This one isn’t woman vs. woman like last week’s was, but it is interesting in a few other different ways. This character, for one thing, is definitely a female James Bond, and as such (and because it’s 2017*), she’s fighting her way past a nearly inexhaustible supply of evil henchmen, along a nearly eternal staircase.

I love this movie so much, and I love this fight scene for a few reasons, some of which we’ll discuss below. I do love me a good spiffy spy movie, too, and if I can get a woman as the Bond-esque star, instead of just a Bond Girl, and a middle-aged one at that? I’m in my happy place. All the character badassery and spycraft twists and turns are supremely entertaining, and the fights live up to the whole in various ways, which I’m about to cover in detail. But! suffice to say: badass woman spy fighting her way past several tough guys? I’m in. Unarmed fighting with the addition of found weapons? Love it. Dynamite acting, especially when it comes to showing fatigue, pain, and the cumulative effects of specific wounds? Yass.

But let’s check out this inspirational fight scene now, before I dissect it, shall we?

Let’s shall. If you’re a paid subscriber, that is.
