In every Blue Dime Cabaret variety show, I (stage name Valkyrie Rose) and my co-producer Brandy (stage name Velvet Bee) do a little ‘producer spiel.’ In it, we thank our audience and remind them to tip, joking that we’re asking for '“just the tip!” lol… And in this little dialogue, she always composes a limerick or two, asking for tips. They’re never exactly correct, meter-wise, and it’s turned into something of a running joke between us onstage.
The other thing that makes limericks special to me is that it’s one of the first ways my partner and I communicated with each other—we’d pass notes back and forth in our high school science class, and they’d often be clever, witty, and cleverly wrought limericks. We were 15.
Tonight, my partner and I, 35 years post-teenage-limericks, are performing a duet in the Blue Dime Cabaret show titled Things That Go Bump (& Grind) in the Night, and Brandy has composed two new limericks for the event. This limerick for NaPoWriMo is in her honor.
Day 3: A Limerick For Brandy
A burlesque performer named Brandy
Made every audience quite randy.
She bumped and she ground,
Twirled tassels around,
And all did agree it was dandy.
